{Family}

Shawna contacted me hoping to shoot a family session with her two brothers while one of them was visiting from Calgary as a sweet Mother’s Day gift for their lovely mom.  She has always wanted some professional photos of the three of them and I was super excited to do some fun casual photos for this awesome occasion.

They weren’t into posed images, which is a good thing, because neither am I 😉  I just wanted them to have fun and let the good ol’ family dynamics unfold.  That they did.  We did some quick shots in a lovely field beside the Fireside Grill (where my wedding reception will be SOON!) and goofed off at Claremont beach.  We did manage to get a few ‘serious’ shots that I think mom will love too.

I would like to thank Melia (see photos from her session here) and her sister Haley (who’s wedding I will be shooting very soon!) for referring Shawna to me.  Referrals are a HUGE part of my business and always means so much to me.  Thank you ladies!

Shawna, Brett and Rob – I had a ridiculously great time with you.  Seriously hard to call that shoot ‘work’ 😉  You are such a fun family and I hope your mom loves your photos.  Here are a few teasers ….

Ummmm yeah, good ol

Leigh + Georgie { Married }

Saturday was a beautiful sunny day.  Pefect for an afternoon wedding.  Georgie and Leigh were married at McMorran’s Beach House. Those who know of McMorran’s, know that it has one of the most stunning views.  Right on the water in Cordova Bay, overlooking the ocean and mountains in the distance, you really can’t go wrong.

Georgie and Leigh had such an incredible ceremony.  Reverend Jim Lauder from Life’s Circle did an amazing  job and included such personal elements about Georgie and Leigh and their love story which truly made their ceremony and vows so unique.  It was one of the most personal ceremonies I have witnessed and the details just made it so special.

Right after the ceremony we walked the 5 (maybe 10) steps to the ocean to do their formal portraits.  WARNING, these two are not models I hired for to shoot, (although they should be!) they are actual real people and they just happen to be insanely good looking !!  Not only are these two freakishly good looking, but they are two of the sweetest people EVER !!  This was such an easy wedding.  Their laid back demeanor made my ‘job’ here a breeze.  Thank you two so much, I just had a blast at your wedding.  It was awesome seeing Shawna and Witney, past clients at the wedding too 😉

Georgie and Leigh as I begin to sift through your photos there are soooo many good ones already and here are just a few.  I hope you are having a fantastic time in Hawaii and I can’t wait to see your tanned selves in a couple of weeks 🙂

Much love,

{Kim}

KIM! These need to be in a magazine! The last two are total glamour, she’s stunning! Again though, I love the location and the atmosphere it’s created around these two. Wonderful wonderful!

I often get asked by clients and photographers alike how I edit my photos.  Well, it can be quite a process.  So to cut right to the chase, here is the “Readers Digest” version of digital manipulation.  My saving grace when it comes to photo editing, are fancy little tools, called “Actions.”  These actions are loaded into my Photoshop editing software and applied on to images to give them a unique effect.  Each action is different.  I have actions that are geared towards a vintage vibe, some with really punchy colour, and others with a softer more romantic pastel feel.  I am addicted to purchasing these actions, which Darren can attest to.  However, they have been a huge factor in helping me define my photographic style and have also helped to speed up my editing so that I am not chained to my computer 24 hours a day.

After applying an action I tweak all of the different layers in the action to get a custom creation.  I often apply multiple actions to one image and sometimes I will also add a texture or two.   This process can take anywhere from 1-2 minutes to 30 minutes per image (and sometimes longer!)

I have three companies that I purchase these actions and textures from: Kubota Image Tools, Totally Rad! and last but definitely not least Red Leaf Studios (awesome Canadian company!) These three companies all deliver consistently amazing products that keep me coming back.  You can imagine how stoked I was to find out that an image of mine was featured on the Totally Rad website! They have a new section of their website dedicated  to action “recipes” and one of my favourite images from last year was chosen.  It’s highlighted in hot pink below !!

{ Jack } Cutie Patootie !

I had a fabulous session with Jack and his mommy Alicia – and their friend Alicia, who was a big help!  The session was in Alicia’s beautiful condo, which was super swanky and modern with stunning floor to ceiling windows (photographer’s dream!)….even an orange leather couch to boot.  Sheer fabulousness.

Mr Jack wasn’t too sure what he thought about this crazy lady with the camera, but little does he know that he may have a future modeling career ahead of him 😉  The camera loved him, and so did I !!  He was a treat to photograph, and his mom is oh so sweet.  I may be photographing his parent’s gorgeous island wedding in 2010.  And 2010 dates are starting to go fast, so I am glad Alicia contacted me nice and early 🙂  She is organized!

Well Alicia, I hope you love these photos and that your fiancee will get to sneak a peak too!
