Better late than never …. right ?!

So I have been meaning to do this blog post F.O.R.E.V.E.R !!  I did a learning session with the oh-so-fabulous Jamie Delaine this summer and for part of it she had arranged this fun power shoot with friends of hers, Shawna and Paul.  They were adorable and sooo wonderful in front of the camera.  Jamie takes family portraits for them annually so I wasn’t surprised that they knew how to work it big time 😉

Shawna has amazing style and was sporting the CUTEST shoes ever!  I just peeked on Jamie’s blog at their most recent family photos and I have to say that they have two beautiful boys.  This is one good looking family!

Shawna and Paul sorry to keep you waiting !!  It was a pleasure to meet you both 🙂

So cute! <3 The light is fabulous; makes me REALLY miss the warm sunny weather…

Colleen & Dave {E-Session}

I would like to start this blog post by saying happy Thanksgiving to all my readers in the US !!  Hope it’s a good one filled with lots of good family time and wonderful food.  I know there is probably a little football thrown in there somewhere too 😉

This year has been such a big one for me.  Full of huge milestones and opportunities.  I have been trying very hard to focus on gratitude in my life this year and on days like today where I stop and reflect on all that I am grateful for … let me tell you, it is one looooong list.

As I get ready to post these engagement images of Dave and Colleen I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to be shooting their phenomenal beach wedding in MAUI in a few weeks time!  How many people get to live their passion as a career ??  Well combining my two passions: travel AND photography is like heaven to me.  I am SO LUCKY and I know it.  I am so grateful for amazing opportunities such as this one.  I am also shooting a wedding in Mexico the week before theirs for Lia and Bryan (click here for their e-session).  Seriously, how spoiled am I ?! So if I am a little slow on the emails in December you will know why 😉

I would also like to take a quick moment to thank Jon and Heather (view a few of their wedding images here), for the lovely orchid they gave me with an incredible card.  It got me all choked up!  You guys the orchid is so beautiful and I think it may even smell better than it looks if that’s possible!  Every time I walk by it I have to take a whiff of it !

Ok, so I won’t keep Dave and Colleen waiting any longer.  Here are some of your e-session photos.  Hope you love them!  Can’t wait for our dinner date!

xo

Kim

This is my second time in two months shooting an image with a peacock in it … weird !!

ShannonNovember 27, 2009 - 6:20 pm

Amazing Kim – absolutely, beautifully amazing!! I love each and every shot, really like the nature in each shot. Have fun in Maui 🙂

RebeccaNovember 27, 2009 - 1:52 pm

Sometimes I don’t know what’s prettier – your pictures or your blog design. I love it so much, I could look at it all day! And that peacock shot is super cool.

Ashley McCormick PhotographyNovember 27, 2009 - 11:23 am

Oh man! those colors in the second one are GORGEOUS! I love fall leaves 🙂 Beautiful as always Kim!! I love the photos 🙂

Gorgeous photos! I love the one with the peacock!! (A REAL LIVE PEACOCK. That’s amazing in itself.)

SeanNovember 26, 2009 - 8:20 pm

The two of them are so cute, they look adorable together and the images just feel larger than life! The colours are so bold & beautiful 🙂 Love the way she’s on her tiptoes in the first.

Sarah & Stephen {Married}

Darren just popped into my office, kissed me goodbye and practically ran out the door.  He is heading down to Lucky Bar to get set up for his band’s (Hastings Beauty Queen) first paying ‘gig’ tonight.  He is sooooo excited…and I am sooooo excited for him.  Not only excited, but I am proud.  My husband has not only so many amazing traits and characteristics, but he is so freaking talented too.  He is their drummer.  The hottest one out there 😉  Ok, I may bug him that it is close between him and Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters … but I kid, I kid !!

So if you are sitting at home reading this right now and you live in Victoria and it is before 11pm on the 24th, you should head on down and check them out !! I will be making my way down there shortly to cheer and smile and wave at him like the biggest groupie out there.

Now that I have shamelessly plugged his band (I can do that, it’s my blog!) I would like to change gears a little bit and talk about photography and a fantastic wedding I shot back in October.  Weird hey ?!

You may recognize this adorable couple from a quick teaser I posted last month, but as I was browsing through their images I really wanted to post a few more.  Sarah and Stephen held their wedding ceremony at the beautiful St. Anne’s Academy.  This is such a gorgeous chapel.  On a sunny day the golden light filters through the stunning stained glass windows and casts this incredible glow in the room.  I just love it.  It really suited the wedding so well.  Sarah looked just radiant as she walked down the aisle.  Just moments before she was lounging pretty comfortably in one of their side rooms, with such an incredible calmness about her…she was such a relaxed bride!  And I love that 🙂

As the weather was cooperating with us that day we moved to the back garden after the ceremony where we shot some family and not-so-formal portraits.  Here are a few more of the photos we created at that time.  I hope you enjoy.

This one below was actually shot at the Uvic Finnerty Gardens, but I love it and wanted to include it too!

PaulNovember 26, 2009 - 3:38 am

Second one for me ‘drop down gorgeous’ very nice Kim.

AndreNovember 25, 2009 - 8:38 pm

I agree, Darren is the hottest one out there! Also, those are some sweet pics. That’s a talented family right there!

SeanNovember 25, 2009 - 3:34 am

The first and last are so sweet, Kim. You just seem to have a way with moments like that…

One Shot and a Big Change

I am making a big change.  Tonight marks the last night of me typing away on my PC.  By Thursday (if the computer gods are with me), or Friday at the latest, I will have a new pretty, and very stylish iMac !!  And I flippin can’t wait !!  This has been a long time coming.  Perhaps it was the recent bombardment of those adorable Mac vs PC commercials, but whatever it was, I finally caved.  PS check out here for the awesome ads I am talking about!

So before I check my PC into the “Mac clinic” where it will be cleansed of it’s contents and on to it’s new owner (aka Darren), I figured I would do a quick post so that I do not keep Colleen and Dave waiting any longer.  There will be more photos to come from this fun e-session, when I am officially typing on my new Mac !!

Okay. You are going to LOVE your new iMac. I got a new 13″ Macbook Pro at the end of August. And I love it. AHH. :D:D:D

Jamie & Colene {E-Session}

Jamie and Colene are one of the sweetest and easy going couples I have ever worked with.  They were so uber adorable together and just really really excited about the photos.  I can’t tell you what a difference this sort of attitude makes towards creating fabulous images!  So I knew I was in for a treat.

The love these two feel for each other is immediately obvious.  The way they look at each other is so heartfelt.  Jamie looks at Colene like he is the luckiest man alive.  Colene doesn’t just look at Jamie, she stares so intently as if she is soaking up everything that makes him the man she loves.   I think that one of the most amazing things about these two together is their ability to make each other laugh … and laugh … and laugh!  And I loved every moment of it 🙂

I know I have a super cool bride-to-be on my hands when she gets ridiculously muddy and doesn’t even bat an eye.  She just brushed it off, like “no biggie.”  Loved that she wasn’t going to let a little mud ruin anything!  High heel boots and all, Colene was willing to get anywhere for a great photo, and that my friends is my kinda client 😉   I am fortunate enough to be shooting their wedding next summer and I am thrilled !!  It will be here before we know it 🙂

NOTE TO PHOTOGRAPHERS … all of these images were processed with the new actions that Red Leaf Studios is about to release and they are AMAZING !!  I was fortunate to enter a contest to name one of their actions and I won, so I was able to get a sneak peek at these beauties.  Keep an eye out on their boutique site (here) for them to be released!

The picture below was taken at the location where Jamie proposed !!  Too cute 🙂
