Dear Camera Manufacturers: Please Take This Seriously

This is a list of ideas and things that manufacturers should do in order for them to keep the camera world fresh. The past few years have felt like one manufacturer basically copying the other over and over again. And it has made the camera and photography world so incredibly dull.

  • Stop the megapixel war. Give us instead better high ISO output at higher megapixels and much more dynamic range.
  • Bring back cheap point and shoot cameras. It’s time to stop grieving your loss of the point and shoot market to smartphones and think about it in a completely different way.
  • Stop chasing the content creator with cameras that are designed primarily for photographers. Help photographers actually push for genre forward.
  • Embrace what Fujifilm Instax does with adding fun filters and add-ons onto images.
  • The menus within your cameras are getting really deep. Use the microphone let someone search for something in the menu using their voice. Or to literally just type it in via a search bar]
  • Some brands like LUMIX are letting photographers make LUTs for the cameras. But you should allow photographers to make apps for your cameras. Sony did this and internal politics messed it up.
  • Give us more in-camera RAW editing functions. It’s long past time that brands take multiple exposure more seriously
  • Everyone should have content credentials built into their cameras that come out. There is zero reason not to do this. If you care about your customers then you should care about their survival.
  • More glow in the dark buttons please. We don’t need to be looking at screens all the time.
  • All cameras should have the feature that allows you to bring the shutter down over the sensor to protect it
  • Please work with actual flash companies like Profoto. No one wants to pay money for overpriced Canon flashes and Sony doesn’t even really put effort into theirs.
  • Take Sony and Nikon’s lead and please give explanations of each and every single setting that’s in the menu system
  • Please make your menus much better for touch compatibility
  • Please consider matte screens instead of glossy ones. Or at least bundle in a matte screen protector
  • Weather seal everything at this point. Global warming isn’t making the weather any more predictable
