Alicia & Skye {Married}

Darren and I spent the most wonderful day on Quadra Island for Alicia and Skye’s wedding. They were married on a beach not far from where Skye proposed. They stood in the Pacific Ocean hand in hand in front of their closest friends and family to become husband and wife. It was truly a beautiful ceremony.

This is just a quick teaser with a full post to come. I have to give Skye a huge thank you for being such a trooper through the photos, broken collar bone and all.

Krista & Karl {Engaged}

He holds her hand as she walks along the log and tells her to watch her step to avoid the sharp branch poking out of a piece of driftwood. We can still hear Sophie, their beautiful puppy, whimpering in the car as we walk further away. Once she knew we weren’t going far she relaxed and curled up on the seat and waited patiently for our return. Karl looks so lovingly at Krista and they laugh as she continues to whisper “I love you”, over and over. It really is too cute!

I am a sucker for love and these two had me ooohing and ahhhing at how stinking adorable they are together.

Verbena Floral Design – Bloom to Bucket to Bouquet {Part II}

I have been editing away trying to narrow down the images for this post, and it was HARD. I have a passion and love for flowers, so you can imagine that I wanted to post them all !!

If you missed part one of this fun session you can find it HERE. I had so much fun working with Vanessa and Jenny of Verbena Floral Design on day two of their session. As we had covered the bloom and bucket part of this series in session one, part two was all about the beautiful bouquet and some fun shots of these awesome ladies along the way.

We started the day at their gorgeous studio which is located right on the water just off of Beach Drive. With views like that I have no idea how they get any work done, honestly!

A tip for their brides – they are easily bribed with Diet Coke, deluxe cheesy popcorn, and cupcakes Ladies after my own heart !

Amber + Justin {Engaged}

Oh I was soooo excited to post this session! Amber happens to love Market Square and so do I. It was the perfect location choice for their session. All the yummy light, colours, floral decor and interesting features all worked in our favour to add a fun flair to these engagement images. Amber described her outfit as having a bohemian / hippie vibe to it. With Market Square being an artsy district of town the style of this session really came together. I love it when my clients have a ‘vision’ for their photos. I believe that it really helps enhance the overall effect of the images. We can run with a certain idea and really dive into the details that would bring this vision to life.

We started our shoot at 9am which is typically a rather quiet time in Market Square. It can become quite the ‘place to be’ later in the summer days, so we wanted to beat the crowd. We succeeded, sort of. There were only two other men there when we started shooting. They were taking pictures as well, but of random things. Apparently Amber and Justin were just so beautiful that they invited themselves along on our little photo venture. They followed us around shooting shots of Amber and Justin over my shoulder and then pictures of me taking pictures of them. Weird. This was funny at first, but became quickly annoying. I put my camera down a couple times and gave them ‘the look’, but that didn’t stop them. We politely asked what they doing, and the one gentleman replied, “shooting images for my private gallery,” which was our cue to leave and FAST. We moved spots and they followed. The one man proceeded to give me “pointers” and critique my set up of the poses and also claimed that I apparently missed a million dollar shot. Sorry guys! My bad. We had had enough of these weirdos so it was time to go. It was one of those things that was creepy and annoying at the time, but we had a good laugh about it afterwards.

I have to say that these images are some of my favourites of the year so far ! I think these two have incredible chemistry and a really FUN energy and I believe that comes through in their photos. So much of capturing the essence and dynamic of a couple involves them feeling perfectly comfortable in front of my camera. Justin and Amber had no problem getting comfortable and easily worked their magic.

Sorry about missing that ‘million dollar shot’ guys. I hope you still love these as much as I do ;)

Alicia & Skye {Engaged}

Alicia and Skye invited me to their new home. Boxes were still being unpacked, walls were being painted and new places for their treasures were being discovered. As much as moving is a giant pain in the a** there is something about having a clean slate and new possibilities that always ignite my inner interior designer. So while some hate the chaos and change, I always look forward to a move and getting organized. While they were smack dab in the middle of this process it was easy to see why this home captured their hearts. Imagine waking up to have your breakfast at kitchen nook that stared across the street into a beautiful farmer’s field. I would love it ! There home has beautiful wood beams and a cozy wood fireplace that will keep them toasty warm on blustery winter (or Spring!) days, I am sure.

I loved Skye’s idea of starting the session at their home to capture some special images to document this new chapter. And with the rain starting to come down, their lovely trees provided the perfect bit of shelter. Jack joined us for a few before I stole mom and dad away for some shots just of them, and their love.

Kyla & Derek {Engaged}

The internet can be such a wonderful thing. Kyla was viewing a friend’s wedding photos on my lovely friends Amy and Richard’s website for Red Leaf Studios and happened to keep browsing along and stumbled across the shoot Darren and I had done and subsequently my website as well. The internet makes the world just that much smaller, doesn’t it ?! Kyla checked out my work and I am really glad that she liked what she saw. We had a great time wandering around the grounds of Hatley Castle and eventually made our way into Charlie’s Trail, which I had never explored. I am so glad they showed me this little gem!

The two of them are getting married soon just outside Halifax, Nova Scotia. Unfortunately for me they already have a wedding photographer booked. I just want to put it out there that I would LOVE to shoot a wedding in Nova Scotia

Ayla & Matt {Engaged}

The weather has been so hit or miss lately that I wasn’t sure what to expect for Matt & Ayla’s e-session. The sky was gloomy grey and it even smelled like rain as we walked along the paths at Thetis Lake. You know that smell when the rain is coming? Growing up on the west coast it’s almost a comforting scent. It is one of my favourite smells like after the first rainfall after days or weeks without rain.

We walked through the trails stopping here and there to admire the Arbutus trees and the few geese that swam by. We stopped to capture photos and memories here and there enjoying our walk along the way.

Matt and Ayla are so comfortable with each other. When I asked them to get cozy together Ayla would curl right into Matt as he opened his arms to her like it was “her spot”. Their effortless ability to naturally fall right into a pose was a complete treat. And despite the gloomy grey skies and drip drops of rain we captured their love in one of their favourite places. How perfect is that ?

I look forward to shooting these two on a very special day in their lives in June, and I can’t wait !

Geoff & Chels {Lovebird Session}

It is always so special for me when I get to work with people who are close to me in my personal life. Geoff and Chels are two of those people.

Geoff became my official brother-in-law this past July, although he has been like a brother to me for the past 1o years Chelsey has been in my life since grade 3 when she was the first person to talk to me on my first day of class in a new school. It was in Mrs. Cummins class that we became the best of friends. It amazes me that we have been friends for 20 years now. God that just made me feel old. What is even more amazing is that my husband’s brother, met my best friend at our wedding and now they are in love. How sweet is that ?? Chelsey and I had always joked when we were little that we would find brothers and each marry one of them, well maybe things are headed in that direction No pressure guys! Lol !!

So working with these two was so incredible for me! They were AMAZING to shoot and I can’t wait to do it again.

Hope you guys love these first teasers in outfit #1. Can’t wait for you to see the rest, but you will have to check back on the blog tomorrow
