Poet’s Cove Wedding | Emery & Jesse {Married}

When a bride forgets her wedding shoes and purse at home when she’s getting married on a gulf island far from home you’d expect some type of major reaction, perhaps even tears. Nope, not from Em. It barely phased her! She knew her day wasn’t about her shoes, or her purse, but something bigger. A lot bigger. Not just about a wedding, but about a marriage. I love my brides and this is just one of the reasons why. Emery wasn’t going to let anything spoil her day. Not even the threatening grey clouds that loomed overhead. And I love her for it!

Jesse and Emery celebrated their incredible wedding at the fabulous Poet’s Cove Resort on Pender Island. I love shooting at Poet’s Cove! They have some of the most amazing staff. It’s always a treat getting to photograph a wedding at this mini destination wedding location. Their day flowed flawlessly thanks to Sandy and her amazing team with Details Event and Wedding Planning. I always love working with Sandy. Her and her team will go above and beyond to make sure your wedding is fabulous.

Emery and Jesse, you were a treat to work with throughout this entire process. Em I love how are emails were about your wedding and the photos and then sprinkled in with little bits about our kiddos. I will miss those, so I hope we can stay in touch. You are such lovely people and I can’t wait to work with you again!

She was the girl next door … literally. They met and fell in love. With so much in common it is easy to see why. There is a sweetness between them that I just love. Their love for one another is so obvious and it made taking their photograph a complete piece of cake.

They wanted to arrive at their reception early so that they could greet each one of their guests and take their coat. This gives you a sense of what kind of thoughtful and lovely people they are.

So here are Lisa and Steve-o, as Lisa calls him, are on their wedding day at the beautiful Abkhazi Gardens. Feel free to leave a comment!

Maybe it’s the pregnancy hormones, but I was melting behind the camera at how sweetly Steven looks at Lisa. Seriously so much love in their eyes. I feel privileged to work with couples who share such a love.

Lisa and Steven both said they felt a bit nervous having their photo taken. Um, are you kidding me?! These two rocked it out like they do this every Saturday afternoon just for fun. I think that so much of creating naturally beautiful images comes down to the comfort and closeness between the couple. And with a sweet love like this I knew they would have an easy time looking fabulous.

True love is also wearing a purple sweater when it wouldn’t have been your first choice Steven you are the man and you look awesome in purple!

Can’t wait for your wedding in May!!

What better way to celebrate love on the blog than with this adorable romantic breakfast Valentine’s Day inspired styled shoot. I am SO excited that it was chosen to be published today on the awesome wedding blog Rock and Roll Bride!! This has been an amazing start to 2011 for wonderful publications and I just can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store.

And because this is the day of love. One of my FAVOURITE days of the year I might add. It’s a day when I am almost 100% guaranteed to get flowers from Darren, and I LOVE flowers. I hope he’s reading this And it’s a great excuse for us to have a romantic and fancy night out at one of our fave restaurants before baby is here. Can’t wait for tonight! I am already drooling at the thought of il Terrazzo’s olive tapanade.

This quote from John Burroughs is one of my favourites. It is something I try to live by. As one of my good friends Kelly is moving and starting an exciting new chapter of her life I was reminded of this quote and how some of the most amazing opportunities are born from taking a risk. Kel, I am going to miss you millions, but I’m excited for what this new chapter will bring for you!

To complete this post I wanted to share just one shot from my latest session with such an amazing couple, Lisa and Steven. This couple is full of so much sweetness and love. Can’t wait to share more and to photograph their wedding in a few short months.

Styled Valentine’s Day Shoot – Published

Shooting just for fun is one of my goals for 2011. I am hoping to do sessions just for me every once in awhile to help keep the inspiration flowing and challenge myself in new and different ways. So I was thrilled when Erica of the FABULOUS Rook and Rose Floral Design Boutique contacted me about teaming up with her to shoot a fun styled Valentine’s Day session. Erica is a creative genius! If you haven’t been into her adorable store on lower Johnson St you just have to check it out. So cute!

In under a week Erica managed to come up with three amazing different Valentine’s inspired themes that we would shoot in one day. Her attention to detail and vision blew me away. Just check out the clock that she MADE below!

I am so happy to say that Part 1 of our shoot was published on the incredible wedding blog The Inspired Bride !!

Dana & Adam {Married} – Oahu Destination Wedding

Voted one of the top beaches in the world. Yep, that is where their ceremony took place. The North Shore of Oahu is a treasure. Its white sand beaches, incredible surf (25 ft waves in the winter), and lush jungle provide endless picture perfect opportunities. And there are not enough hours in the day to capture it all. Dana and Adam chose this paradise as the place to share their wedding vows with family and friends. They had taken care of the legalities in a civil ceremony before they left and it’s a good thing they did.

Shortly after the scheduled ceremony start time the marriage officiant was still no where to be found. As guests waited patiently on the beach soaking in the beauty and gentle Hawaiian breeze we learned that the officiant would not be making the ceremony. Now, news like this would cause a wee bit of stress for the calmest of brides. But not Dana. She was cool as a cucumber and brushed off this ‘minor’ detail and quickly came up with a fantastic replacement officiant. One of their friends would perform the ceremony and I have to say he did an amazing job! I would have never guessed this wasn’t his actual profession! He nailed it. Potential crisis averted. I have the best clients and they have awesome friends

We shot until dark and the only light out was the moon. I just couldn’t stop! I had a hard time narrowing down the images for this post, so here are just some of my faves.

Dana and Adam thank you so much for including Darren and I in your fantastic wedding. You treated us like one of your own guests and we truly appreciated it. I hope these images convey the love and beauty of your amazing day.

Dawn & Billy – Mayan Riviera Destination Wedding – Part I

I have gushed about this wedding already in my first post for Dawn’s Trash the Dress session, here and here, but I have to gush some more! Where do I even start with this spectacular couple?! How about how their love for each other just ooooozes out of them in the most sincere and beautiful ways I have ever seen. You can literally feel the love these two share with the incredible energy they have and it is such an honour to be in the presence of it. Or, how they can’t take their eyes off each other, ever. They are so in love that it’s ridiculous! And I love it. Seeing a love like theirs is rare and I know without a doubt in my body that these two souls were meant to share their lives together.

Dawn and Billy were married at the Dreams Resort in Tulum and it was the perfect setting for their elegant sunset wedding and week long celebration. Their wedding was extra special to me as Dawn has been one of my dearest friends for years. So standing with her on that stunning white sand beach photographing her marrying the man of her dreams, meant more to me than words can express. None of this could have been accomplished without Dawn’s amazing mom, Lynne. If you missed the post about our BIG surprise and how we ended up in the Mayan Riviera you can read that here.

Now this post has been a long time coming and there will be more images to come. But for now here is just a taste of the getting ready, some details, and the emotional “first look.” I have never seen someone run so fast to her groom as Dawn did !!

Something Sparkly and Bright

Amber had the most beautiful engagement ring and I was SO happy that I brought along my new 100mm macro lens to get a couple up close and personal shots of this beauty. Careful, the sparkle might hurt your eyes! Well done Jason, it is a breathtaking ring.

I don’t know if it is fair for two people to look so good together !! Amber and Jason came to our shoot looking so fabulous that I swear we could have been shooting these images for any fashion magazine spread instead of their Christmas cards. I am NOT complaining. I think that they look just incredible and their outfits really worked so well for creating some stylish winter images.

They even brought along their adorable pups Wilbur and Lily for some fun family portraits. Love that !

Hope you guys like your first few teasers. I think you rocked it out.

Best Surprise EVER !!

Guess where I am ??! Go ahead take a guess !! Give up ?!! I am in the MAYAN RIVIERA !! And do you want to know why ?!! Because one of my clients and looooong time friends, Miss Dawn Marie, has an AMAZING, no scratch that, an UNBELIEVABLY FLIPPIN AMAZING mom.

This surprise started way back in May. Dawn and Billy had started planning their destination wedding in Tulum and had invited Darren and I to attend and also they had wanted to hire me as their wedding photographer. Now as much as I soooo wanted to attend their wedding and be apart of their day creating beautiful photographs in the Mayan Riviera, Darren and I were hoping to be pregnant by May or June and depending on how that went I didn’t actually know if I would be able to fly and shoot their wedding come late November.

Now here is where it gets good, real good. In the meantime, I was contacted by Dawn’s mom, the unbelievably awesome Lynne mentioned above, who had decided that for her wedding gift to Dawn and Billy that she wanted to secretly fly Darren and I down to have me shoot the wedding. By this time Darren and I had found out we were indeed having a baby and that the timing would probably be perfect as I would just be six plus months come late November. So Lynne and I tried to decide on a story to tell Dawn as to why I “couldn’t” shoot their wedding. We decided to say that I wouldn’t be able to make it as I would be too far along at that point to fly. Little white lie. Sorry Dawn!!! I felt like a horrible friend, but knew this surprise would be SO worth it. So Lynne and I planned and schemed away and to make a long story short Darren and I were flown to Mexico to surprise these two lovebirds with some amazing wedding photography for their special day. How amazing is that ?! Such an fantastic wedding gift.

So as you read this I am probably lounging poolside sipping a delicious virgin lime margarita while basking my big baby belly in the fabulous sunshine. Go ahead and hate, because when I left Victoria the weather forecast was calling for snow, so I feel bad for all of you, really I do

I can’t tell you how excited I am to shoot this wedding and to share the gorgeous images I know we will create.

Travel Snaps Tuesday – Blue Mosque

I am sitting at my desk sipping my decaf vanilla Early Grey tea with my blanket on my lap and watching the leaves blow by outside my window. It is a blustery day and I am perfectly content to be sitting here working away and feeling nothing but cozy. As much as Summer is by far my favourite time of year, days like this make me feel good … and fortunate to have a warm home to be inside.

What better day than to edit some travel pics and reminisce about our amazing time in Turkey. I think I probably only have a couple blog posts worth of images from this trip left to share, and then it will be on to my next travel adventure.

So today I am sharing with you images from the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey. As you can tell I had a thing for the ceiling detail. Hope you enjoy!

Sandra {Allure}

For this Favourite Things Friday post I would like to highlight one area of my photography that doesn’t always make it to my blog, but an area that I am extremely passionate about shooting. My Allure sessions, or boudoir photography as it is commonly referred to, was a type of photography I wanted to specialize in right from the beginning. I have said this before, but the satisfaction I get from helping a woman feel beautiful, sexy, and confident is so incredibly rewarding to me. Yes, it may take a little or lot of courage depending on the individual to feel perhaps a bit vulnerable in front of the camera, but as I have seen time and time again the results are worth it in every way. I believe these sessions are such an empowering experience that the images themselves become almost a bonus. Hearing feedback from women who I have worked with in the past saying things like “I can’t believe that is me!” after seeing their private gallery always puts a smile on my face. I know that feeling when you have an image of yourself where you feel beautiful or sexy and it can be worth more than words.

So when I first spoke with Sandra, our conversation started the same way almost all of my Allure consults go. Sandra was a little nervous. This session was something she had wanted to do for herself and for her husband, but after having two gorgeous children she expressed a little anxiety about having her photo taken, especially wearing less than she normally would We talked about how it is my biggest goal to make her feel comfortable and to ultimately have fun with this session. I assured her that once these sessions get going they have a way of becoming so much fun that any insecurities seem to fade away as a distant thought.

I will let the images speak for themselves, but Sandra you look absolutely stunning. Seeing you become comfortable in front of the camera and get your ‘model’ on was such a pleasure to witness. You were fierce like a top model! I am sure that everyone would agree with me that you would never know you were nervous in the slightest.

Sandra, thank you so much for giving me permission to post these images and for choosing me to be a part of this special shoot.

I would also like to thank the amazing staff at Aveda for doing such a fabulous job on Sandra’s hair and make-up. She wanted a mad-men inspired look and they definitely delivered. Don Draper eat your heart out !

Also, I have to thank Sylvia Main of the incredible Fairholme Manor for letting me shoot my Allure sessions in such a spectacular venue. If you haven’t heard of Fairholme Manor be sure to check out her site or her Facebook Group. It is just breathtaking and such a romantic and historic B&B. Jen & Erik {E-Session}

Erik proposed to Jen during a romantic road- trip along the Oregon Coast. Tucked away in a private cove on a beautiful beach Jen said YES. And so here we are. I was so flattered when Jen contacted me right after their engagement to start talking about the wedding photography. My kinda girl! I am always so lucky to get clients who value the photography as a very special part of their wedding day. Jen is one of those brides

You will see in a moment or so, but these two are just so flipping adorable together. They cuddled together perfectly in front of me and my camera and despite it being a rather busy day at Hatley Castle, they didn’t even seem to notice.

Erik even brought along his ‘other woman’ for the session. You’ll spot her. She is also wearing blue, and has two wheels. I completely understand the ‘other woman’ concept. Darren has one. She doesn’t have a name, but she does have four wheels and for periods of time in our relationship I am pretty sure he spent more time with her than me. Building, fixing, maintaining, polishing and just generally loving her. It’s a good thing I have come to love her too.

Erik and Jen, I am so excited about your wedding! Looking forward to creating some beautiful images on your day.

Katelyn & Paul {E-Session}

These two lovebirds are getting married next Summer and they have chosen me to be their wedding photographer !! I have known Paul since high school, so getting to be apart of their wedding will make it that much more special.

Katelyn is an avid runner and often jogs along the Gorge Waterway. So when we were deciding on a location with lots of gorgeous Fall colours and leaves, we knew this was the perfect spot. We completely lucked out with the weather too, considering my other two sessions for that weekend had to be rescheduled due to the rain. But for their session it was a beautiful day!

One of my favourite moments from their session was when Katelyn would stare so lovingly at Paul and when I would have them move in even closer she would look at him and giggle the cutest little laugh. Just adorable.

I also want to give a huge thanks to the very talented Melanie Baird for doing such a fantastic job on Katelyn’s make-up. It is always such a great idea for brides to time their make-up trial for the same day as their e-session. Thanks Melanie! You can check out her website here.
