Leica is renowned for its cameras, but also for the limited editions it introduces every now and then. The latter segment has its own following, as it features some significant limited editions in its portfolio. However, we are not here to discuss the past, but to offer a glimpse into the future. Leica is introducing a new limited edition version of the iconic SL3. Here’s what the new model has to offer.
According to Leica, the SL3 Reporter version is a new addition to the company’s Reporter design series. This is a new, robust version of the camera, which further demonstrates the company’s commitment to photojournalists. The Leica SL3 Reporter comes with a different design, which helps photographers to withstand harsh conditions of “reportage and press photography.” Leica states that photojournalists will get maximum precision in any situation.

The Leica SL3 Reporter now comes with a scratch-resistant dark green finish and an aramid fabric cover, which gives extra safety against “abrasion and environmental influences.” There is also a special trim, which has a better texture to provide more grip than the older cameras. This means one will get more stability while shooting. In fact, the trim can develop a patina, showcasing your journey as a photographer and giving your camera a unique appearance. Leica’s M series cameras were also launched with a matte-finish paint to cater to individuals who wanted a patina on their models.

While the camera has a dark green paint finish, the buttons are black in color. There is also an absence of the company’s iconic red logo, which helps to keep the camera stealth-ready. As for the technical specifications, the camera features the same 60MP full-frame sensor as the original SL3. There is also a Hybrid AF, 5.76MP viewfinder with a frame rate of up to 120 frames per second, and an ISO range of 50 to 100,000. The SL3 is fantastic, and it received our Editor’s Choice Award in 2024. As we said back then, “There’s a lot to really like about it. Leica has truly been listening to its customers and the market while incorporating feedback into the camera’s design. It’s smaller and lighter than the previous version — yet they also packed an extra dial onto the top of the camera. This makes it feel a bit more retro while also keeping the very modern and sleek look.”
For those who have already purchased the Leica SL3, they can look away. However, photojournalists who are planning to move to the Lieca system this year can get their hands on the eica SL3 Reporter. The new model is available worldwide for $7,995. If you can spare that kind of money, you will get a camera that can achieve a lot, even in places where Sony stands to fail.
