It’s really hard to run across new ideas when you’re on this side of the journalism desk. But when something does come up, I’m ever so intrigued and excited. You’ve obviously heard about printing your images. For some of us, that’s probably not making it go far enough. So what about the idea of making your image so large and with the ability to stick onto something like your wall? Yes, you can more or less make your photo prints into large stickers or something kind of like wallpaper to turn your photos into an actual mural. I’ve never really seen this done before, but Lumaprints can do it for you.
This article is presented in partnership with Lumaprints.
So yes: take that idea that your prints need just the right lighting and all the complexity of that — then throw it out the window. What Lumaprints does here is they quite literally turn your images into a peel and stick paper that you can put on nearly any surface.
I mean, stickers are fun, right? When I used to have a Macbook, I’d canvas them all over the outside of it.
These are called the Lumaprints Peel and Stick prints. You can start at 8×10 inches for a little over $4 and then go up from there. You can even go smaller! They use textured woven fabric to get the look they create. This fabric is kind of matte but with just a little bit of sheen on it. I strongly recommend placing them in spots where there’s a lot of natural light or a lot of daylight/white light. Other colors will probably mess with the way it looks.
Don’t think of it like a standard sort of wallpaper. This is one that you’d really want to touch and feel. Sizes go all the way up to 40 by 60 inches. That’s huge!
Before you put it onto any surface, we strongly recommend cleaning the surface, then peeling off the backing of the print like you would with any sticker, and finally, carefully and slowly affixing it to a location. If you’re putting it on a wall, I’d even go so far as taking measurements to ensure that you’re putting it in just the right spot.
I hate saying that something is a game-changer because that term is overused by way too many social media influencers. But instead, I think that this is cheat code. No, really — it’s pretty much making the whole process of printing even easier. No longer are you going to sit there and try to figure out what material, what finish, the size, etc. Instead, you just print the image, it will look good, and then you stick it onto a wall or any other surface.
Because this is a peel and stick surface, you don’t have to worry about how it’s going to be lit at all. At least, you can put less concern into that because it’s going to live on the wall. Try putting them in your living room, your bedroom, your office, or stick them on something smaller like your laptop with a 4 x 6 inch print.
