Leica cameras and lenses have been pretty exceptional in myriad ways. The company has introduced iconic models such as the Leica M6, the M10 Monochrom, and the M11-D. Like the devices, the optics that support them have also been pretty great. For instance, the Summicron, Elmarit, and Summilux have continued to offer distinct focal ranges, each designed to meet the needs of different genres of photographers. To add to this range, Leica is announcing four M-lenses in distinct colors: olive green and glossy black. Here is a look at the models available in these shades.
Leica Safari Editions

The Safari edition was first introduced in 1977 with the R3, and since then, the company has continued to introduce more models in olive green. This year, the company announced the M11-P in Safari edition, and to match the same shade, they are offering a few lens options. This includes models such as Summilux-M 35mm f1.4 ASPH., Summilux-M 50mm f1.4 ASPH. and Summicron-M 28mm f2 ASPH. The lenses offer the same internals as the original lenses, but the only difference is the silver-chrome brass focus tab, the red feet scale, and the white meter scale, all of which are on a green-colored body. In addition, each of the three focal ranges is a pretty great option for photographers who shoot reportage, portraits, weddings, or street photography.

In fact, in our review, the 35mm and the 50mm received five out of five stars, thanks to their exceptional build quality, the high-quality images they produce, and the unique character each offers. As we said about the 35mm, “One of my favorite things about Leica is its editorial color palette. The vibrant colors are true to life, yet better. Winter’s pastel golden hour hues are accurately presented. Skin tones are accurate and do not require editing. And neon lights pop and add life to an otherwise ordinary scene.”
Glossy Black Paint Edition

The first edition of the glossy black paint was introduced in 1962 with the Leica M3. Over the last 60 years, the company has given photographers the chance to acquire a unique camera and lens, as the frequent use leads to a unique patina on the paintwork, partially revealing the brass underneath. Leica announced the Notilux 50mm in this edition back in 2024, and this year, they are offering the Summilux-M 50 f1.4. The lenses will complement the M11’s black color version.
The company states that the lenses are already available and will cost $6,795 for the Summilux-M 35mm, $5,495 for the Summilux-M 50mm, and $4,595 for the Summilux-M 50mm with black paint. The Summicron-M 28mm will be available in February 2026 at $5,995.
While the lenses are expensive, one knows that they are purchasing a Leica for their lifetime. So, if you have already bought the Safari camera, or have the black paint version, you can finally get matching lenses to build a perfect arsenal.
