As cameras are getting expensive, there are fewer options for photographers to choose from. If you are young and want to purchase your first camera without breaking the bank, we have a few small sensor offerings. APS-C cameras may seem less attractive to some, but they are ideal options if you want a device that is better than your phone and is not too complicated to use. Have a look.
Canon EOS R100

The Canon EOS R100 features a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor, can record UHD 4K 24p with crop, and comes with 3975 AF points. The camera is a mirrorless but has a DSLR-like design, and is quite small and lightweight. The camera lacks weather sealing, which means you need to exercise caution when shooting. The autofocus is decent for everyday use, but you will struggle if you want to make images of fast-paced subjects such as wildlife. The images are better than your smartphone, and you also get good colors and clean JPEGs. As we said in our review, “Canon R100 is good for affordable snapshots for consumers that are never really going to get off of auto mode. The image quality to price ratio is quite good, but it sacrifices speed and user experience in order to get there.”
Canon Rebel T7i

An APS-C DSLR, the Canon Rebel T7i is another affordable offering from the company. The camera features a 24MP sensor, DIGIC 7 processor, and includes 45 AF points. The burst rate is 6fps, and it features a 3.0-inch 1.04m-dot LCD. Additionally, you can capture full HD videos at 60fps. As an entry-level camera, it lacks weather sealing, but it is quite easy to use. The autofocus is good, but it can’t track people or animals. As we said, “They’re good and in most situations will please most people.” The T7i also offers excellent images, colors, and dynamic range, making it an ideal option for anyone who wants more detail than their phone can provide.
Sony a6100

The Sony a6100 is a good camera, but you can find a comparable model for under $500 if you opt for a used camera. We highly recommend this option because it is one of the best offerings in the APS-C range. The device features a 24.2MP sensor, 425 AF points, and a 1,440,000-dot EVF. There is also a burst rate of 11 frames per second. The camera’s build is good, but it doesn’t quite match the quality of premium offerings. Either way, the device won’t disappoint you. In good light, the camera is blazing fast, and the image quality is superb. You can also photograph animals, thanks to Real-time Animal Eye AF. Moreover, you can track people, and the RAW files allow you to retain the details.
