Nikon cameras have been pretty excellent in many ways. The company’s mirrorless lineup is inclusive, with models such as the Z9 and the Z6 III offering the opportunity to photograph people of color in low-light conditions. You also have better readout speed and autofocus, thanks to the company’s older cameras, such as the D850. The latter offers not just extra pixels but also fantastic colors and build quality. Here is a look at a few lenses that complement the iconic DSLR and match its performance.
Nikon 28mm f1.4 E ED

One of the best lenses is Nikon’s own 28mm f1.4, which features 11 elements in 8 groups and 9 aperture blades. It has a close focusing distance of 0.35m and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:8.3. The lens is big and beefy, and comes with a golden band that previous Nikon lenses were known for. In addition to weather resistance, the optics can focus really well in good lighting. However, if the light goes low, then it becomes a bit slow. Other than that, the colors are fabulous, the distortion is non-existent, and the bokeh is exceptional. Due to its gorgeous performance, the lens has also won our Editor’s Choice Award.
Tamron 35mm f1.4

Tamron has always been one of the best options for Nikon users. The company’s latest offerings fit like a glove on Nikon cameras. But they also offered a gem back in 2020, the 35mm f1.4. Constructed with 10 elements in 9 groups, the Tamron lens offers vibration reduction, a close focusing distance of 7.9 inches, and a magnification ratio of 1:2.5. The lens features fine texture rings, is weather-sealed, and boasts a rugged build. This complements Nikon’s D850, allowing one to shoot in challenging conditions. The autofocus is pretty good, too, and one can easily switch the camera to face and eye detection tracking when needed. In fact, we liked the lens so much that we hope it will be launched again today for mirrorless Nikon cameras. As we said in our review: “Photographers who use the Tamron SP 35mm f1.4 Di USD will be ecstatic not only with the colors but also the quality of the bokeh. The bokeh is super creamy and well complemented by the colors this lens produces.”
Zeiss 50mm f1.4 Milvus

Zeiss has always created exceptional lenses, and the Zeiss 50mm is no different. It measures 97.5mm, features a close focusing distance of 45cm, and has a largely metal construction. There is also a full focusing scale and a depth of field scale, which helps since this is a manual focusing lens. One can rely on zone focusing to achieve a sharp scene. At the same time, you get weather sealing, which makes it a worthy contender. As for the photos, the Zeiss Milvus is sharp, contrasty, and has beautiful bokeh. The lens deserves praise, as it is truly capable of delivering the results you desire.
