Lia & Sean {Married}

I attended Sean and Lia’s gorgeous outdoor wedding at the Victoria University Club last Saturday. As the sunshine filtered through the trees and as the pond quietly flowed in the background Lia and Sean said their vows to become husband and wife.

There were happy tears and lots of laughter and memories were made. It was amazing to be apart of it.

Jasmine Star Workshop

This week I was in Orange County as one of the few lucky attendees at Jasmine *’s Workshop. If you have been following my blog for awhile you will know that I am a huge fan of Jasmine’s work and her incredible business savvy. I had met her for the first time back in March at Image Quest and I was so excited to learn from her again and hopefully absorb as much knowledge as I could in this short period of time. I was really impressed with how much ground we were able to cover and I really walked away feeling recharged, inspired and full of ideas.

As part of the workshop we were fortunate to be able to work with the most beautiful couple Joe and Jihan Cerda. These two are SMOKIN hot !! Besides being ridiculously good looking they are sweet as pie to boot. Jihan’s gorgeous make up was done by the one and only Vivian of All Made Up and the incredible black cala lilly bouquet was created by Carissa of JL Designs.

It was such a pleasure to meet so many other photographers. I was happy to see some familiar faces at the workshop. I had the pleasure of meeting Jonda Spurbeck at the Red Leaf Studios Workshop, and I had met Mikaela Ruth at Image Quest back in March. You can check out there awesome work HERE and HERE.

Slipped through the cracks …

This morning I started my day with a cup of hot water and lemon. It is a new tradition and I love it. It may sound odd but this beverage makes me feel all cozy inside. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a tea grannie through and through. Well these two drinks are now battling it out for my affection. I start my day with hot water and lemon in the morning and have moved to tea in the afternoon. I have to be fair and can’t pick favourites quite yet

One of my favourite clients, Jenny is a personal trainer (click here for her website that is coming soon). She saw me post about my new found hot water and lemon addiction on my Facebook Page and with her nutritional knowledge let me in on a little secret. Ok it might not be a secret, but I wasn’t aware of it. Drinking hot water and lemon in the morning can actually help you lose weight. The lemon acts as a mini cleanse and the hot water jump starts your metabolism for the day. Annnnd I heard it is really good for your liver as well. Sorry tea, but it looks like hot water and lemon is in the lead for now.

I sipped my lovely drink this morning while browsing through my wedding images of 2009. I was wanting to freshen up my website a bit with a few new photos on my website . While searching through my folders I stumbled across this gem from Haley and Jordan’s wedding at the stunning Starling Lane Winery. I can’t believe I never posted it before! Isn’t is just adorable ?! Haley’s expression is just priceless. Talk about an entrance! Needless to say this image is now apart of my wedding portfolio on my website. I just love it.

Lia & Bryan {TTD in Mexico}

It’s official. I could look at the images from Lia and Bryan’s “Trash the Dress” session all day long. In fact, I have today. I keep wanting to come back to them. As an artist I think it is common to not be completely satisfied with ones work. To see the flaws and the “imperfections”. However, every once in awhile I finish a shoot and just feel proud. Where I am not picking my images apart and being a relentless self-critic. Lia and Bryan’s wedding and trash the dress images have been one of those experiences for me. I just feel so satisfied with how their images have turned out. Like I said before, in their post HERE, it doesn’t hurt that these two are so photogenic I probably couldn’t have taken a bad picture if I tried. But still, in this instance, I am going to take a little credit and give myself a pat on my back, because I think these images are some of my best all year.

Now I just hope that Lia and Bry just love them as much as I do

Lia & Bryan {Married in Mexico} – Part 1

You know when you are having “one of those days” where something bad happens and it seems to set the tone for the entire day ?? Well, that was my yesterday. I woke up and went to check the mail, something I quite enjoy doing. I think I like it because there is always some form of anticipation around it. I am one of those people who absolutely loves getting fun things in the mail. Cards, packages, you name it – I love that stuff. I love sending those too Anyways, yesterday I got something in the mail that I did NOT like. It was a bill from BC Hydro for $605 !!! WHAT ??! Our typical Hydro bills have always been between $100-$200 at the most. We just moved into a brand new house that is built to entirely ‘green’ energy efficient standards AND Darren and I were away for two weeks during this billing period. So at first we thought this HAS to be a mistake. There is no way we used this much power. But after waiting on hold for an hour to talk to a very sweet gentleman at BC Hydro, he assured me that in fact our bill was correct and that we are still using that much energy RIGHT NOW. AYKM (are you kidding me?!) for those that aren’t quite up to date on the ‘hip’ acronyms these days.

Darren and I like to pride ourselves on being relatively ‘green’. I am a recycling guru and am always getting after him for putting anything that could be recycled into the garbage. We use energy efficient lighting. Un-plug any appliances when not in use (with the exception of our computers). We keep our heat around 15 degrees and rarely use our electric fireplace. All of our big appliances (stove, fridge, washer dryer etc) are all energy star rated. I even compost for crying out loud !! Sooooo I am baffled. Unless Darren has a secret ‘grow-op’ that I am unaware of I am not sure what the heck is going on. By the amount of type real estate and capital letters I have given to this topic I am sure you can tell I am a bit worked up about this. So thank you for letting me vent

Now on to something much more exciting than my energy woes – more images from Lia and Bryan’s destination wedding in Mexico!! I posted some teaser images for them a little while back, HERE. But because I have fallen insanely in love with their wedding images, I decided to post some more. In two parts as a matter of fact, as there is just that many images that I heart big time.

As you could probably tell from their teaser pictures that Lia and Bryan are not the most attractive people, in fact the camera really hated them. Eeeeeeew – look at their perfect teeth, hair, complexions, smiles … YUCK! Heee heee heeee !! I am being completely sarcastic !! Lia and Bryan are a GORGEOUS couple, inside and out. Anyone can tell from looking at these photos that I couldn’t have taken a bad picture of these two if I tried

Lia & Bryan decided to see each other before the wedding and do a “first look” which I am a HUGE fan of !! You can read more about ‘first looks’, HERE. I will post images from their “first look” in Part 2 of this post. Soooo cute !! In this post I am just sticking to the getting ready shots as well as a few of the wedding party shots.

Today I have spent most of my day editing Lia & Bryan’s destination wedding in Mexico (click HERE for their teaser post), which I CAN’T WAIT to share more of !! I am really proud of their images and I am so happy with how they turned out !

When I am editing images I try to make sure I take breaks away from the client’s images and come back to them as I want to keep the creativity fresh and flowing. So today, I took a break from Lia & Bryan’s images and re-visited a fun shoot I did with my girlfriend Cara as part of my one-on-one learning session with Amy and Richard from Red Leaf Studios. I stumbled across this image of Cara, and couldn’t believe that I did not edit it before and put it up on the blog with her other post. Anyways, better late than never right ??!

I am off to hot yoga with Cara in just a few minutes, so some of you may get to see this before she does !!

Darren & Michelle {A New Years Eve Wedding}

When I woke up last Thursday the sky was so dark and the clouds looked like the couldn’t contain the rain much longer. I was right. I had hoped that the weather forecasts would be wrong and that Michelle and Darren would have nothing but a crisp clear day for their wedding. But you know what, it poured, and it didn’t matter. Nothing on that day could have dampened Michelle and Darren’s spirits.

I spent the earlier part of the day with Michelle as she transformed into a winter princess. Michelle could not have appeared less concerned about the blustery wind and substantial down pour we were having. And that is just one of the reasons I think I have the best brides! Michelle drew me back to the true meaning of the day with her words “it’s about the moment.” She uttered those words as she glanced for a moment outside, with a little smile on her face. That is when I knew, that Michelle was going to let NOTHING ruin their day.

Having clients with that kind of attitude is the perfect blessing. Their priorities are in order and they are trusting that everything will work out just fine, as it always does. Having that attitude helps me in ways I can’t even convey. Both Darren and Michelle trusted me completely with their photos. When we first began discussing their wedding plans it became apparent that if they were going to have their ceremony in the evening at the uber romantic Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse, it would be dark and would have no light for their formal portraits. So we decided that opting for a “first look” was the way to go. For those of you who do not know what a first look is, one of my most favourite photographers, Jasmine Star, describes it perfectly on her awesome blog, here. We set up a special moment just for them and after their first look we continued on with their wedding party and formal portraits.

Michelle did not even hesitate to brave the elements in order to achieve the images that we desired. Yet another reason I have the best brides. It was not only raining but it was COLD. Thank goodness Michelle’s mom had made the most beautiful white cloak with a fur lined hood. Talk about an awesome addition to the photos! It was gorgeous and another perfect detail that was added to their day. It is elements and details like these that can make a wedding and the images become one-of-a-kind. And I love that.

Michelle got ready at one of my favourite hotels, the Sidney Pier. I love the modern look to all of the rooms, and not to mention the gorgeous floor to ceiling windows looking out towards the ocean which provided us with a lovely source of light and a cozy spot to shoot her getting ready photos. Michelle’s five bridesmaids helped her get into her fairytale gown that she purchased while in Paris! How incredible is that ?! It was fit for a princess and was truly the perfect dress for Michelle. Swarovski crystals sparkled on Michelle’s gown, necklace and tiara. Marnie of Marnie the Make-Up Artist did Michelle’s make-up and I have to just say that she did an outstanding job! Marnie was super personable and fun and I could tell she is incredibly passionate about what she does. Make-up is such an important element for wedding photos, so it was awesome to see that Michelle was in good hands

Lia & Bryan {Married in Mexico}

Darren and I had the honour of flying to Mexico to shoot a fabulous destination wedding for Lia and Bryan. Where do I even start ?? This wedding was one of the most intimate, fun, exciting, and happy happy happy celebrations I have ever attended. This couple was surrounded by so much love that you couldn’t help but smile all day week long.

The close family and friends who attended their fabulous wedding treated Darren and I like we were their own family. They included us in everything they did and were so grateful and appreciative for us being there, which was just the sweetest. Sometimes I just can’t get over how lucky I am.

On the day of the wedding I would describe Lia and Bryan as so completely content and calm and peaceful about the wonderful day ahead. They definitely set this wonderful tone and their day unfolded in an amazing relaxed manner and it was such a pleasure to be apart of. I am only posting a small teaser of some formals and a few from their trash the dress session and I promise there is much more to come. I have to pack tonight as we fly out tomorrow for Dave and Colleen’s Maui wedding.

Lia and Bryan, I am so grateful that you chose me as your wedding photographer and that you allowed Darren and I to document your incredible wedding in paradise. I hope these photos bring back some of the special memories of your day.
