Forbeyon Album: Emery and Jesse

Hearing the knock at my door knowing that my parcel has arrived carrying yet another beautiful album from Forbeyon, always makes me giddy. Even though I design the albums myself, seeing them in person is a whole different experience. I love how these beautiful albums help to tell the individual wedding story for my clients. They come wrapped so beautifully that even though I want to tear it open, I take my time carefully untying the ribbon and delicately remove the thick paper. I flip page by page and relive their wedding day. I imagine them enjoying it for years to come. Perhaps on anniversaries and even sharing it with their children when they are older.

Gwyn & Brian {Married} … Again

The desire to renew their vows was sparked by a horrible accident that Brian was in. Sometimes it takes something so frightening to truly remind you of what you have, what you want and what you never want to lose. Brian proposed … again … and ten years ago to the day they came from San Diego to exchange wedding vows under this same beautiful tree at the spectacular Sooke Harbour House. In one of the most emotional ceremonies I have ever witnessed. I was so moved by their love. I am about to get all touchy feely on you here … but honestly the love and energy between these two soul mates is palpable. I was honoured to be one of the four people in attendance at such an inspiring ceremony. I loved that it was unconventional in the fact that there were many kisses, embraces and laughter throughout.

Gwyn and Brian thank you truly for including me in this magical day. Gwyn I have to say I am honestly flattered with how much you knew about my photography style!

I would like to thank Ebony at the Sooke Harbour House for being so so lovely to work with. It is an incredible venue and fabulous staff like you make it that much more wonderful.

Gwyn, you have some killer legs lady!

2011 Weddings … Some Personal Faves

…. and by some, I mean a gazillion images. Call me Mrs. Indecisive because I had such a hard time narrowing it down. I worked with so many amazing couples this year! You’ll also notice in a moment that I am a sucker for detail shots. So grab a Decaf Skinny Vanilla Latte, well that’s my Starbucks bevie of choice, and hunker down because this is going to be some serious image overload.

Poet’s Cove Wedding | Emery & Jesse {Married}

When a bride forgets her wedding shoes and purse at home when she’s getting married on a gulf island far from home you’d expect some type of major reaction, perhaps even tears. Nope, not from Em. It barely phased her! She knew her day wasn’t about her shoes, or her purse, but something bigger. A lot bigger. Not just about a wedding, but about a marriage. I love my brides and this is just one of the reasons why. Emery wasn’t going to let anything spoil her day. Not even the threatening grey clouds that loomed overhead. And I love her for it!

Jesse and Emery celebrated their incredible wedding at the fabulous Poet’s Cove Resort on Pender Island. I love shooting at Poet’s Cove! They have some of the most amazing staff. It’s always a treat getting to photograph a wedding at this mini destination wedding location. Their day flowed flawlessly thanks to Sandy and her amazing team with Details Event and Wedding Planning. I always love working with Sandy. Her and her team will go above and beyond to make sure your wedding is fabulous.

Emery and Jesse, you were a treat to work with throughout this entire process. Em I love how are emails were about your wedding and the photos and then sprinkled in with little bits about our kiddos. I will miss those, so I hope we can stay in touch. You are such lovely people and I can’t wait to work with you again!

Jenny & Josh {Married} Part I

It started with an amazing proposal (here). And their fabulous wedding day this September was just the beginning of an incredible life together, I just know it. The life these two have together has been built upon such a strong foundation. Their love, faith in each other, and true friendship will give them the strength to take on the world. I have been honoured by their loyalty as clients, and I am so fortunate and grateful for the trust they place in me and my work.

Jenny has always let me know how important my photos are to her and I am happy to know that their wedding images will be treasured in their home forever. She left me the cutest note the other day saying that I am probably “working away sitting at my desk with my cup of tea, eating soup with a blanket on my lap.” And you know what, she was EXACTLY right. I am that predictable. I just love that she follows my blog and knew that was how I spend so many of my days.

I know she is especially excited to finally see their blog post, so I won’t keep her waiting any longer. On to the pictures! Please leave them some comment love below Part II will be up tomorrow!

To finish off the ceremony the amazing Josh Lovell sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” It was such a sweet touch. His voice gives me goosebumps!

Sandra & Don {Married} Part I

I knock three times. Sandra comes to the door in her cute tank top and jean shorts, but done to the nines with her hair and make-up looking so super glam. She is completely at ease and relaxed and I am not surprised for a second. Sandra has been one of the most easy going people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I knew that her wedding day would be no different. She chose to get ready at the Brentwood Bay Lodge Resort and Spa which was such a treat for shooting lovely detail and getting ready images. As I moved around shooting I chatted with her lovely TWIN bridesmaids. How awesome is that I thought it was so cool to have not only two sisters as her bridesmaids, but twins!

When we were all ready to go, Sandra’s brother came and picked her up in style, in a firetruck. You could tell the guests at the hotel were wondering what was going on, and were relieved to find out that it wasn’t a fire, but instead cheered for her on as she climbed aboard.

We arrived at Sea Cider and quickly set up their first look. Sandra casually picked up her dress and strolled past the apple crates towards Don. His reaction is priceless as you will see. I think he may have liked what he saw!

Then we moved on to the ceremony. One of my favourite moments was when they passed their rings around to all their guests for them each to bless them, or think positive thoughts for them and their marriage. Loved that!

On to their portraits.

As Sandra and Don looked out over the orchard he squeezed her tight and whispered in her ear. She giggles and her face lights up with so much happiness. There is so much sweetness and adoration with their love. I get the feeling that they both feel so lucky to have found one another.

Conversation comes so easy with these two. As we wander around shooting portraits we chat about our love for Maui and snorkelling and how jealous I am that they are heading to Hawaii for a fabulous honeymoon. My body misses the heat already.

Don and Sandra it was a treat to be a part of your wedding. Thanks for having me! Feel free to leave them some comment love below.

Their little dog Theo led the way down the aisle, bowtie and all. It was quite possibly the cutest thing ever! I love it when people incorporate their pups as part of their wedding and seeing them dressed up just melts me every time. These two LOVE LOVE LOVE their baby pooch and it truly was so sweet that he could be apart of their day.

Liz & Josh {Married} Part I

If I ever had a couple trying to decide if a “First Look” was right for them and unsure if whether it would take away from the emotions of seeing each other walk down the aisle I would happily direct them to Liz and Josh’s first look images. I have been blessed to witness five “first looks” this wedding season. All of them have all been incredible in their own way, but the emotions that came over these two as they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day moved me beyond words.

Liz and Josh celebrated their wedding at the fabulous Bear Mountain Resort. With it’s stunning views, beautiful architecture and lovely landscaping this venue was perfect for their amazing wedding.

I will share more in Part II as I couldn’t narrow down all the images for just one post. So stayed tuned for lots more to come.

Not only are these two blessed with some darn good genes, but they are just as sweet to match. Liz and Josh you made my job easy and I was so happy to be apart of your day.

Claire & Ryan {Married}

Wow, this way overdue. So overdue in fact that there is now EGGNOG in the grocery stores! It’s not even Thanksgiving yet! Darren is one of those people who has to buy eggnog the second it hits stores. I on the other hand prefer to wait until the Christmas season is upon us. I don’t like the novelty to wear off before December even hits. Now I am not saying that because it is now in our fridge that I am going to refrain from drinking it. I would hate for it to go bad

I know that Claire and Ryan had a challenging year with many obstacles, upsets and life changes thrown their way. Now as always in life it is not often what happens to you, but how you react to such events that shape who you truly are. Claire and Ryan chose to focus on the positive and their wedding truly reflected that. It was a gorgeous intimate ceremony at the beautiful Glendale Gardens. This sentimental location was the perfect spot for their lovely garden wedding.

Jen & Erik {Married}

Darren and I travelled throughout Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia for three months back in 2006. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my entire life and not many days go by that I don’t think of a memory related to that trip. One of our stops in Thailand was in Ayutthaya which is a Unesco World Heritage site just 80km north of Bangkok. Darren and I intended on taking the train but missed the departure and were going to have to wait hours for the next one to leave. With everything being ‘slightly’ cheaper than home, we decided to find out how much a taxi would cost to take us there. Well for not much more than the cost of the train tickets we were able to ride in airconditioned comfort all the way there. You can imagine our surprise when we are getting out of our taxi and hear this sweet voice say “Darren Spears?!” It was Jen!! Darren and Jen went to highschool together. Jen was travelling with her maid of honour, Ashley. And if you can believe it this wasn’t the last time we would bump into these two. Yep, in Bangkok, a city with a population of 9,100,100 according to Wikipedia, we ran into them again at the MBK mall. (Sidenote – I also ran into a co-worker of mine at the time in a market in Bangkok as well!) It truly is a small small world.

Ok, getting back to the reason for the post. Jen got married !! Her HUSBAND Erik is such a sweet soul. You know when you can just tell when someone has a good heart? That’s Erik. I am so happy that they chose me as their photographer. Their wedding was so laid back and it honestly never felt like I was working. LOVE that !

They had an amazing team to assist with their day. The amazing Carly Flint did a spectacular job on the ladies make-up. Jen’s make-up was perfection and such a dream to shoot ! Tami Heywood was their officiant. Not gonna lie. She is my favourite! Not only because she was who married Darren and I, but because she absolutely loves what she does, and it shows. Cory Hewko created the gorgeous florals. It was so fabulous to work with her again. She also did the amazing florals for Angie and Aaron.

You can tell I am behind on my blogging as Jen and Erik are already back from their honeymoon in Costa Rica. Every time I think of Costa Rica THIS song pops into my head. Just love it.

Brentwood Bay Lodge | Angie & Aaron {Married}

These two came all the way from Australia to get married on the beautiful west coast that we call home. They picked the fabulous Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa as their chosen wedding venue as it reflected their personal style and love for west coast design.

This wedding came together with a fantastic team of people. Sharon Rai and her team did an amazing job creating a very vintage hollywood glam look for Angie. She looked just gorgeous. Corey put together incredible florals for this event. She even incorporated native Australian florals which added such a sweet personal touch. She does the stunning arrangements that are always on display at Brentwood Bay Lodge. Last but definitely not least, Jackie May is the fabulous wedding coordinator at the Brentwood Bay Lodge. Jackie is always so wonderful to work with and truly goes the extra mile to ensure that everything is just perfection. Love working with her!

Details, details and details galore !!! This reception was such a treat to photograph. I loved the colour palate that Chris and Elaine chose. Their adorable cake table melted my heart. So sweet.

My wedding season is winding down. Only 3 more to go unless there are any last minute additions. After I tucked Hayden into his cozy bed tonight I took a few minutes for myself to putter in my garden. I picked a bowl full of plump blackberries with the intention of making Darren his favourite crisp. As we are still getting settled in our new home I am still getting used to our new yard and my gardens which are being somewhat neglected. I wandered around admiring and literally smelling the roses. I picked up the hose and gave our dahlia’s and kiwis a good drink. It was getting dark now, so I got the laundry from the line and came inside. Those few moments to just be still, relax and centred were bliss. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to Fall where I can spend more time in my garden and continue to enjoy the simpler things in life. But once wedding season is over I will miss it. Can’t believe it is nearing an end already.

Affinity Guesthouse | Elaine & Chris {Married} Part I

It started off with a simple email and turned into one of my favourite weddings of all time. From the beginning Elaine and Chris have treated me not just as someone they hired to be apart of their day, but as a close friend. Sharing in the excitement as they planned their wedding was truly an honour. Seeing Elaine’s email pop up in my inbox always made me smile. She kept me perfectly in the loop on the incredible details they were planning. From Etsy purchases to handmade details, the list went on and on. But nothing could have prepared me for how truly incredible it all came together. Elaine and Chris had also hired Erica who is the ridiculously talented owner of Rook and Rose Floral Boutique. If you haven’t checked out her work, YOU MUST. Erica has a vision that will blow your socks off. And with her and Elaine teamed up I knew I was in for a treat. I must give a huge thanks to Cortnie Clarke who did an incredible job on Elaine’s make-up as well. She looked beauuuuutiful !! You can find Cortnie at Crave Beauty in Duncan.

I would list the highlights and details but there are just too many! I couldn’t even narrow their images to less than 3 posts! So please enjoy part 1 with lots more to come. Just wait until you see all the reception details – O.M.G. I was literally giddy at all the gorgeousness.

Elaine and Chris you are truly two of the sweetest and kindest and most thoughtful people I have ever worked with. I wish you were getting married again next year so I could look forward to your wedding all year again! Vow renewals ??! Just saying

Jannea & Geoff {Married}

Geoff and Jannea were married on one of the nicest days we have had all summer. It was actually sunny out if you can believe it! These two said “I do” in a beautiful ceremony led by the always wonderful wedding commissioner Bill Smith.

Jannea has one of the cutest laughs I have ever heard and her laughter throughout the ceremony had everyone giggling. Geoff is a kind soul, you can so tell from the moment you meet him. His smile could not have got any bigger during the day if he tried. Jannea looked so stunning in her gorgeous Maggie Sattero gown that I am not surprised Geoff was grinning from ear to ear.

These two are enjoying a fabulous Hawaiian honeymoon. Got to admit that I am a tad jealous. I could use some serious heat, the like four days of summer we have had just aren’t cutting it.

Hope you guys are soaking up some vitamin D and having an amazing time in paradise. It was such a pleasure working with you!

Angela & Oliver {Married}

Angela and Oliver were married on one of the nicer days we’ve had all ‘summer’. I’ll use that word loosely considering I contemplated turning my fireplace on the other day to take the chill off in our house.

It was Canada Day which is always a festive day in Victoria, so it was a perfect day to celebrate their beautiful wedding. I was in looove with Angela’s shoes! And getting ready at the Hotel Grand Pacific provided a fabulous backdrop for some lovely getting ready images.

Thanks to Crystal of Anthem Salon for doing such a wonderful job on the ladies hair! Also a big thanks to the sweetest limo driver, Neil, for being so accommodating and helpful. And last but not least, the gorgeous florals were done by Foxgloves Flowers.
